PASAR BARU - TRADE CENTRE (BANDUNG)

Pasar Baru Bandung
The Textile Centre

Add flavor to your Bandung shopping experience by visiting Pasar Baru Bandung.

Pasar Baru is a trade centre where we can find lots of things:
  • Various types of fabrics, such as cotton; silk, embroidered fabrics, brocade, satin and tulle for party and wedding dresses; wool for tuxedo and men's suits; batik fabrics made of cotton, silk or rayon.
  • There are a few boutiques in Pasar Baru where we can buy modern party dresses as well as traditional beautiful kebaya.
  • Ready to wear clothes for baby, children, men and ladies: casual and moslem clothes.
  • Beautiful Moslem praying veil for women and sarong for men.
  • Various underwears for children, men, and women.
  • Leather jackets.
  • Many types of bags, such as school bags, travelling bags, ladies bags, and wallet.
  • Shoes.
  • Ladies accessories.
  • Bed sheets, bed covers, and blankets.
  • Wedding accesories, both for traditional Sundanese and European bride and groom.
  • Souvenirs from Mecca, such as tasbih, raisins, and dates.
The quality of the goods vary, but, if you have good eyes you can find high quality goods there.

The best thing I like about Pasar Baru Bandung is that the price is cheaper than other places, especially if you buy it in bulk, then you can get wholesale price. The term in wholesale we use is either dozen (12 pieces) or score (20 pieces). Usually one dozen consists of the same items and sizes with 3 or 4 different colors. Hence, you will get wholesale price if you buy 3, 6 or 4 items taking each color available. You can also bargain the price in some stores.

Pasar Baru means new market. It was a traditional market selling fresh meat, vegetables, etc. It was on fire sometime ago, rebuilt and then renovated to its current look: a modern 4 storey building. It is still selling fresh meat and vegetables as well as cooked meals in the basement.
Although the kiosks in the basement opens early in the morning until noon, other stores upstairs usually open around 9am until 5pm. Personally, I prefer to come to Pasar Baru in the morning when the stores just start the business, before it is crowded and too hot.

There are many small kiosks and some even big stores full of merchandises inside Pasar Baru Bandung, but there are many more stores along the Oto Iskandar Dinata street and its surroundings, because it was Bandung's chinatown, witnessed by Pecinan Lama street (Pecinan Lama means old chinatown) across Pasar Baru. Hence, the area becomes the shopping district in Bandung with many independent specialty stores. Next to Pecinan Lama street is ABC street, full with electronic and household appliance stores along the street.

In addition, there are plenty sellers on the pedestrian walk, in front of these stores. Unfortunately, the crowd makes it difficult to walk here and you must take care of your belonging, watch out for pickpockets.
